There has been a "flurry" of activity at the Fitchburg Public Library over the past month. The windows are being installed, the exterior brick and stone work is progressing and a roof has been installed. Inside the building the stud walls are going up so the rooms are starting to take shape. Ductwork, electrical wiring and plumbing piping is underway. The in-wall rough-ins are complete in some areas which means we can begin hanging drywall.
During the next couple weeks, stud walls, drywall, mechanical rough-in, electrical rough-in and plumbing rough-in will continue, as well as the window installation and brick work on the exterior. This is a critical time of construction as everyone pushes to finish the building enclosure so the interior finish work can continue on schedule.

Well Winter hit hard this month but construction on the Fitchburg Public Library continues to make progress. All of the Structural steel is in place. The steel studs and wallboard which is the first step in enclosing the building is moving along. In the Parking level the floor slab is poured.
Upcoming work includes roofing, masonry on the exterior walls, Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing rough-ins starting inside the building, the in-floor heating system is being laid out and we are preparing for the topping slab. Along with the enclosure work there will be temporary plastic in the wall openings so we can heat the interior of the building during construction.
Lots going on and it will be a busy winter.
Happy Holidays!

After years of hard work and preparation by countless city employees and volunteers, the Fitchburg Public Library is under construction. The site fence is up and Research Park Drive has been closed. We started clearing topsoil on the library site last week to prepare for the mass excavation over the next 2 weeks. You will notice work on the West side of Research Park Drive, some of this is temporary work to create space for construction trailers and staging area for construction materials. This space will be returned to its original condition at the end of construction. We have installed temporary storm sewer around the site. Next week they will continue excavation and the first footings will be poured.
Through the rest of July and August most of the construction will be below grade, but by the end of September the precast over the underground parking will be underway. The building will take shape in October when the structural steel is erected. In the month of November you will get a glimpse of the exterior brick and stone and by the end of the year, the exterior finishes including windows will be nearing completion.
